It’s often thought that ALS only affects older, white men. The reality is that an entire community of women are currently living with ALS and they’re working hard to change this misunderstanding and build awareness that this disease can impact everyone.
When women are diagnosed with ALS, it is a unique experience with specific challenges that not everyone may understand or face. Navigating disease progression can be difficult. Experiences with implicit bias from physicians, challenges related to body image and physical changes, decisions around early retirement and physical ability to work, as well as developing new outlooks on dating, socializing and platonic friendships are just a few of the concerns women with ALS face.
Join I AM ALS and Her ALS Story for a conversation covering these challenges among others, as well as how women living with ALS have navigated their ALS journey and found hope and community along the way. Learn more and sign up here.
We look forward to closing out Women’s History Month with this conversation by women, for women.
***Please note, while this event is for women, we welcome our male caregivers and family members to listen and learn.
